Inventors to Know: Proposed Rules – Disclaimer Practice in Patents and Patent Applications

Will Salas, Patent and Trademark Resource Center summarizes new rule from DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE /USPTO for inventors to know:
The US Patent and Trademark Office is proposing a rule change making it easier for inventors to file a second patent that is “patentably indistinct” to a first patent. Ordinarily, in examination before the USPTO, any application for a second patent covering such similar invention would be rejected.
